Facts: The Meaning of Flowers
White Rose Sometimes called "the flower of light", the white rose suggests purity and silence.

Orchids There are more than twenty five thousand species of orchids, more than any other flower.
Orchids represent ecstasy.

Sweet Peas Because they bloom constantly, in Victorian language of flowers, they represent lasting pleasure. Because of their curling tendrils and richly colored blooms, they also represent careless luxury.

White Lily In Victorian language of flowers, the white lily represents youthful innocence. Christianity associated the lily with the feminine deity - the Virgin Mary. In the Middle East the lily was sacred to Astate - the primal goddess of fertility.

Gardenia In the Chinese tradition, the gardenia represents feminine grace and artistry. In the American South, it stands for hospitality.

Red Rose In the West, the red rose symbolizes beauty and deep passionate love. It is said that when Cleopatra decided to seduce Mark Antony, she met him in a chamber filled with red rose petals.

Pansy Named for the French word for "thought" (pensee), they represent thoughts that lovers share before a word is spoken.

Lilacs Lilacs express the beautiful sadness of love. Lilacs are both purple and white - the purple represent passion and the white represent absence.

Tulips The word tulip is derived from the Turkish word for turban (tulbent) because of the shape of the bloom. In Persia to give red tulips is to declare your love and Yellow tulips are given to declare your love hopelessly and utterly.

Freesia Freesia reminds us that love may be careful and calm, or rushed and passionate.

Violets
Violets represent a pledge of faithfulness.

FAQs: Bea's Most Frequently Asked Questions
Q:   How far in advance should I book a florist?
A:   For a wedding as soon as you have chosen your ceremony and reception sites, your bridal dress and the attendants dresses and colors you can call for a consultation. Since we only take one major function per day call early. However we have handled weddings for 150 just one month in advance. If we are not booked we can do it. For other occasions such as anniversary party or shower - you can call for an appointment once you have chosen your venue and caterer.

Q:   I don't know what I want for flowers - can you help me?
A:   Yes. Part of my job is to show you the myriad of options that are available and to help you choose the flowers and designs that are appropriate for the setting, time of year and your personal style. This is a fun process where we work together to create the look and feel that you love and feel comfortable with.

Q:   How much do flowers cost?
A:   It is hard to say how much flowers cost because there are so many different flowers and options available. After an extensive consultation we give you a detailed estimate outlining the costs of flowers and decorations chosen. After reviewing the estimate you may make changes or revisions to suite your budget.

Q:   Where do you get your flowers?
A:   We use the finest New York wholesalers for our fresh flowers. We find that we have access to the best quality and the greatest selection there. For our silk flowers we use the best wholesalers and importers. We only buy the highest quality materials from the best sources.

Q:   What if the flowers we ordered are not available at the time of my wedding or party?
A:   Not often, but occasionally this happens - we always do our best to get the flowers that we promised you by trying other sources. If however it does not work out we will call you to advise you and choose the best substitute available in the same price range.

Q:   What is your payment policy?
A:   For weddings and large parties we require a deposit - based on the total cost of the event - to hold the date. Another payment is due 30 days prior to the event, with the final payment due one week before the event. For custom dried and silk we require a 50% deposit with final balance due at time of delivery.

Q:   Do you have a contract?
A:   Yes, we have a contract to sign at time of deposit.

Q:   What is the area that you cover?
A:   We have handled parties all over Connecticut, as well as Westchester and Manhattan. We are available for travel to other areas - please call to discuss.

Q:   Do you deliver and set up?
A:   Of course. Part of our service is to deliver everything and set up. We want your day to be as stress free as possible so we handle all the little details.

Q:   We'd like to use you for just for part of our wedding or party - will you work with us?
A:   Because we think it is important that the flowers and decorations for a wedding or party be of the same quality and design style throughout, we prefer to work only on projects that use us for the entire event.
